Candlefish

bumping rating up one more to four stars. the scent isn't my favorite but it did kinda grow on me and i ended up ordering it again. nice one for the bathroom

five stars for the scent. have to drop the rating here tho, the problem with these tins is the decorative labels start peeling as the candle warms up. and the wicks are thinner than the 9 oz candles so they tend to burn too fast and these wicks can break off so the candle becomes unusable. i'm always careful with my candles but have had several of these that left too much unmelted wax at the bottom, which… kind of hard to justify the price or feel comfortable giving these as gifts while knowing that happens so easily. the scents are preserved better thanks to the lid, but there are a few design flaws that hopefully will be improved in the future. (side note: i noticed Rewined 7 oz tins use the correct thickness of wick, so i don't know why Candlefish is using thinner ones.)

was hesitant to order this scent but it's really fresh and calming. glad i finally decided to try it

from the description i didn't really expect to love this, but it's actually perfect and might be my new favorite candlefish scent. bright/clean yet subtly sensual

was disappointed the candle doesn't match the description, but am giving it a chance anyway and while it isn't the type of scent i usually like, it does smell very clean and is pretty effective at neutralizing the various odors coming from my neighbors. likely to repurchase on those merits alone

description says "jasmine, linen, and woods" but the candle doesn't smell like those things at all, and the label says water fruits instead of jasmine. only reason i finally ordered this (after hesitating for months) is because it supposedly includes jasmine. the scent isn't terrible but i doubt i'd ever buy it again for myself or as a gift.

one of my most favorite candlefish scents, this being the one i've bought and shared with others the most. regarding the tin vs the jar: the main disadvantage of the tin is they use a thinner wick so it burns too quickly, more prone to tunneling etc.. but the scents are much better preserved due to the lid. i've ordered a few favorites in both the tin and glass jar, the difference is quite noticeable. especially on the more subtle scents like this no 04, the fragrances tend to seem faded as the product sits on the shelf—in a muslin bag and a nice box, but without a lid on the jar. i still love it even so, but the tin version showed me what i was missing. this really is a great scent and it's even better in the tin. so despite the tin being a smaller, faster burning candle, the trade-off is the scent being stronger/more true.

this quickly became one of my favorite candlefish. very cozy scent

it's ok, just tried it first time, immediate impression is kind of generic citrus. website mentioned it also having coconut and melon but i haven't detected any hints of that so far. in any case it's not bad for a fruity candle.

comparing this to no.67 which is also bergamot and lemon (with ylang ylang instead of ginger), i have to say i prefer 67. to my admittedly fussy nose, the ginger in no.30 somehow smells more bitter than spicy/warm

first impression wasn't great, but halfway through this candle i started noticing a similarity to no.88 (a fav) so now it seems a little better than i thought

at first i thought this might be another one that smells reminiscent of cleaning products, but the longer i burn this one the more yummy the scent becomes. i'm already ordering more directly from candlefish, since zappos only has this in the 7 oz tin and the wick burns too quickly. (the 9 oz jar burns more slowly with a thicker wick and as a larger candle.) that would be my only complaint with the #88 tin, is the wick. side note: zappos should start carrying more of the candlefish library, especially like 9 oz jars of #35, #75, and now #88

for me, candlefish scents are very hit or miss, so it's always a gamble ordering one i haven't tried yet. i hesitated for a while on this one because it includes musk. but in actuality it's pleasant, subtle, and far less musky than some of their other candles that don't have musk mentioned in the description at all. (for repurposing, the embossed tin lid is also the perfect size to loosely cover the candlefish glass jars.)

the top one-third just smelled like a spice candle (didn't match description or expectation). as it burns farther down, some scents emerge that are closer to description/expectation but are still overshadowed by the distracting "spice" so i can't give a high rating but it is slightly better than i thought. side observation: candlefish candles often have some element of surprise that isn't listed in the description. sometimes it works but other times (as in the case of #83) it can detract from the expected scents. but anyone specifically looking for a spice candle, might like this one

sorry but another popular candlefish scent that's just lost on me. somehow reminds me of bug spray or toilet freshener?

it's described as bergamot, jasmine, and amber, and the candlefish page even mentions the inclusion of rose. but my nose is only picking up reminders of Old Spice (men's aftershave) or at best, a holiday spice candle. no detectable hint of anything floral or… whatever floral notes it was supposed to have had are eclipsed by spice and musk. there's also some patchouli in there. not quite as bad as it sounds but definitely not what i was hoping for. as has happened with some of the other candlefish candles i've tried, i expected a more feminine scent but found this to be one that leans masculine.

I bought this to give as a gift. pretty and smells very good. good value.

the floral-herbal scent was initially a bit different from what i expected, but after burning almost the entire candle, i'm probably going to order it again

gave it a couple of days but it kept reminding me of things like… pipe tobacco ? serious migraine trigger. i'm a big fan of some candlefish candles, but this scent won't be one of them. (even though their website says everybody loves No. 70.) if it was even slightly tolerable i would've given it more of a chance but i had to throw it away after burning only the top layer. not sure how zappos returns work for things like candles.

after burning through a few dozen of this scent and testing out a few others from candlefish for comparison, this is still the best. undoubtedly too subtle for people who are into strongly scented candles, but this is what makes it so perfect. the scent is there but barely noticeable if you aren't already familiar with this candle. if you are familiar with it, it's a very comforting scent, and just enough to help neutralize random odors in an apartment building without heavily masking them. i will still occasionally try other candlefish scents for fun and curiosity but this is the one i always come back to.

i might be the only one who doesn't love this popular candlefish scent. the more i attempt to burn it and get accustomed to the fragrance, the more it reminds me of men's aftershave… not sure why i expected a more neutral or feminine-leaning scent. it definitely hints more masculine.
