Flame Resistant Apparel at Zappos
For those working in an environment where there is any potential risk for electrical or flash fires, requiring proper flame resistant clothing can provide workers and employers alike, with peace of mind that they will be protected from injury. Whether you are an electrician, lineman, or an oil refinery journeyman the chances are, FR apparel is required to perform your job safely. According to NFPA 70E, if you work on live equipment operating at 50 volts or more, then you must perform an arc flash hazard assessment. This assessment protects workers from flash fire exposure and injury by specifying performance requirements and test methods for flame-resistant fabric and garments. These garments are specifically designed to help prevent injuries and fatalities due to shock, arc flash, and electrocution.
Zappos is proud to announce that we now carry FR apparel from top brands and manufactures providing the best FR apparel available for your protection. From base layers to cargo pants, we can help provide you and your team with the correct PPE for your specific industry needs.
Depending upon the line of work you are in, the HRC level needed may vary. However, the Zappos at Work team is here to help! It is always best practice to speak with your supervisor or our Zappos safety team prior to purchasing your FR apparel. They will be able to recommend the best options for your specific position and working conditions. Our Zappos team is available at email@example.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
What is the difference between a steel toe boot and a composite toe boot?
Are you a safety decision maker at your organization? Does your employer require safety toe footwear at your job? If the answer is yes, then you may be faced with the decision to choose between a steel toe shoe and a composite toe shoe. How can you know which one is best for you and your occupation?
Steel-toe boots have been the standard in safety footwear for the last 80 years. Composite-toe boots became available relatively recently. Both options pass the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) tests for impact and compression. If an accident were to occur and a heavy object is dropped onto your composite toe shoe, it is recommended that you replace it. Even if the damage is not immediately visible, it is likely it will not offer the same protection as a steel toe option if a secondary accident should occur.
Because composite toes are made of non-metal materials, such as carbon fiber, Kevlar, fiberglass or plastics, they allow for a lighter-weight option compared to Steel-toe. They also do not conduct heat or cold, which makes them more comfortable for working outdoors. If your workplace requires passing through a metal detector, Composite-toes will not set it off, unless your boot is manufactured with a steel shank.
If you have recently been hired it is always a best practice to speak with your supervisor or our Zappos safety team prior to purchasing your safety footwear. They will be able to recommend the best option for your specific position and working conditions. Our Zappos team is available at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
Women’s Safety Footwear
Since the early 1960s the number of women entering physical labor jobs has steadily increased. Women now make up close to half of the physical labor workforce. As the percentage of women joining the field has increased, so has the demand for a broader range of styles and options in women’s safety footwear. Gone are the days when women have to settle for the same clunky masculine work boot options. Safety shoe manufacturers recognize the importance of looking and feeling good in your shoes on the job. Finding the right shoe can seem like a daunting task. Additionally, every career has its specific safety requirements: steel toe, comp toe, slip resistant, waterproof, reflective, etc. At Zappos.com, we are proud to offer an extensive selection of both men and women’s safety shoes. Currently, we have 60+ brands and over 450 women’s styles in Safety Footwear alone. Our Zappos safety team maintains a close relationship with safety shoe brands in order to provide the latest styles and features on the market. We are even able to offer custom-made options to fit your specific uniform needs.
