The_ONES Wishlist: Shop the Sneaks with Courtney Brand Agbetola
We’ve partnered with CNK Daily, a rising e-source dedicated to serving women in what they’ve dubbed SneakHER Culture, to bring you In HER Soles: Meet The_ONES, a series celebrating the power of sneakers and creatives with ladies across the country. Stretching across a variety of areas including business, design, fashion, mindfulness, and social advocacy, we’re sharing their stories, their work, and the sneakers they keep on deck.
Connecting the dots through creative expression is one way we love to champion boss babes and their unique sneakHER style. Not only do sneakers provide versatility within our wardrobes, but they have created a common thread of creativity across a variety of industries. One woman that understands versatility is Courtney Brand Agbetola. This corporate business woman also runs The B Werd, a blog which has built a community rooted in content that finds Courtney using her savvy business acumen and effortless style to empower women to be the best version of themselves.
We met up with Courtney in the heart of Houston, Texas able to shoot a few snaps and get the 411 on her personal style, her passion for sneakers, and get a glimpse at what she’s putting in her e-cart. Check out how this sneakHER superwoman serves style inspo - in her own words.
What’s the 411 on Courtney?
CBA: "I’m a Houston native who works in Public Relations while managing my full-time brand, The B Werd. When it comes to style, sneakers have always been my first love and I’ve definitely carried that into adulthood."
Back to the Basics...
CBA: "I consider my personal style to be a simple statement. I’m not too into trends and have always been more attracted to classic pieces that won’t be out of style with the following season."
Classics Never Die, B.
CBA: "My style has certainly evolved, and I’m not as “daring” as I used to be with what I gravitate towards. One thing that’s remained the same is my love for classics. The Air Force Ones, the Adidas Shell Toes, the OG Jordans are all still my favorites. Some of my sneakers have been re-released three times since I purchased mine.
Why do you feel a classic silhouette should be included in a sneakHER rotation?
CBA: "For the simple fact that it lasts! There’s no timeline on classic silhouettes. For example, I have photos from wearing Stan Smiths as young as 6 years old, with an overall denim dress. That’s exactly how I’d wear them today. The simple colorway, the timeless design, all contribute to being able to wear them year after year."

CBA: "I start with the shoes and build around those. I’m a huge fan of pairing girly looks with sneakers. To me - it balances masculinity with a taste of sexiness. I also love to pair sneakers with more luxury pieces, like blazers, or leather skirts. So wearing the blazer, the outfits I chose are the perfect example of how sneakers can be dressed up or down."
What are 3 style tips you would give ladies when creating their own personal sneakHER style?
CBA: "Stick to what you feel most like yourself in. For me, I know I’m not a trendy woman so I don’t mind buying a shoe that everyone else has. I don’t need “exclusives.” I go with what’s going to make me feel most like myself. Second, get a canvas sneaker - you won’t regret it. Third, try it on! There have been shoes that I said I’d never wear, that I instantly fell in love with once I tried them on."
What Does SneakHER Culture Mean to Courtney?
CBA: "To a certain extent, I feel like SneakHER culture gives women an even playing field. It allows us the same access that men have to be expressive in their style in the same ways that they are… sometimes even better. SneakHER culture without a doubt gives women the confidence to walk in boldness and attract attention she’s not afraid to shy away from."

"It’s difficult to explain, but each of the sneakers I chose instantly drew my attention. Without having to think too heavily, they’d easily fit my personality and wardrobe." - Courtney
